Our Food Ethos

Plot to Plate

Come and walk our Kitchen Garden on your visit to The Ferry House and amble among nearly 1.5 acres of veg, herb and flower beds, two polytunnels, a large fruit cage and our wonderfully wild ‘secret orchard’.

The blooming heart of The Ferry House, we crop from the garden daily year-round, bringing the freshest, most unique seasonal produce from plot to plate.

Field to Fork

The Burdens have been farming the land around the cottages since 1968 and currently have over 2000 cattle grazing the salt-marshes at the neighbouring Elmley Nature Reserve. This high welfare herd provides quality beef to The Ferry House, matured for 28 days for the finest taste and texture.

Also on the menu is game bird meat from the family shoot on the local estate, free range eggs from the Burden’s ‘Harty Hens’ and the many wonderful forageables from the surrounding hedgerows and estuary shoreline.

Grain to Glass

Raise a glass to homegrown spirits at The Ferry House bar. From the Mocketts Farm holiday cottages you’ll be just a stone’s throw from the Burden farm fields, where three types of grain are grown, harvested and then distilled by the Copper Rivet Distillery into their award-winning gins, vodka and whisky.

We’re proud to bring these fantastic artisan spirits full circle from the farm, back to our bar for you to enjoy a taste of the Harty landscape on your cottage holiday in Kent.

2AA ROSETTE AWARDED RESTAURANT & TASTE OF KENT WINNER 2018 & 2014

“The winner is Kent to its core, local everything from cider to the cows grazing in the surrounding land, served with top end personal service by staff whose knowledge of the local area was as if they were born and raised there. “Quite simply the best all round experience shouting Kent”

Amazing food in a beautiful setting

We visited the Ferry House for a Saturday lunch and it didn’t disappoint! Our table was at the front overlooking the beautiful views, it felt so relaxing. The staff were friendly & food was so good! Thank you for a really lovely Saturday lunch experience, we would definitely recommend!
